My slow season arrives gently.
It slips in with cooler air, earlier sunsets, and calendars that finally have room to breathe. The beach quiets. My camera rests a little more. And just like that, my busiest months fade right into the season of Thanksgiving tables, Christmas morning, New Year toasts and Mardi Gras beads tangled around door knobs.
There's something comforting about the timing of it all.
This season gives me back to my home. Afternoons that smell like something baking and evenings that end on the couch instead of behind a screen. I get to be fully here--with my kids and my husband, in the ordinary moments that don't ask for perfection.
And I love it.
But the slowness comes with a shift.
When the days grow shorter and the sunshine hides earlier, I can feel the blues settle in. I miss the sunshine on my skin. I miss the people--the families I meet, the laughter, the energy of creating alongside others. I crave the light and connection that fill my busiest months. Rest is good...but my heart leans toward movement and warmth and connecting with people!
The slow season holds space for responsibility, too.
This is "behind-the-scenes" season.
The "future me will be grateful for this" season.
The season where I make sure this business that I love so much is legally sound and ready for another awesome year.
It's when I sit at my computer surrounded by business license renewals, updating permits, preparing for taxes, and facing all the very unglamorous parts of running a business that nobody sees on social media.
And then somewhere in-between all that, I bake and cook. Because it slows me down and grounds me. It kind of feels like therapy. It fills my house with warmth when the days feel a little gray. It gives my hands something to do while my thoughts wander. And because feeding the people you love is its own form of care and creativity.
So the slow season reminds me why I built this life in the first place--to create space for my family and a business I love. To honor rest without losing sight of the joy waiting on the other side of it.
Before I know it, the sunshine will be back and the days will be longer and my calendar will be full and I'll be surrounded by beautiful people and their stories again.
Until then....I'll be right here living in the in-between.
